I would try to take him ring shopping, during the months leading up to May, and he would always play dumb, act neutral, and shoo me out of the store. I had found THE ring that April. The one I REALLY wanted. So I called to tell him all about it, and he dismissed the idea (like the always did) saying something like, “I’m not letting you pick out your ring.”
We had never seen the sun rise over the ocean before, and conveniently enough the hotel had a photographer who SPECIALIZED in sunrise photos. I begged for a chance to get a little portrait session done of us, to always have a memory to pass down of our very first time seeing the SUN RISE OVER THE OCEAN! (And I mean, I just really wanted photos of me & my boyfriend ๐ )
Little did I know, I actually set my guy up WELL. He was already planning to propose at sunrise, so when I asked to get a portrait session done, he said absolutely. We were in the middle of our session, I made a joke about how romantic it would have been if he would have proposed that morning, and he said “well, actually, I have a question for you.” He got down on one knee, a little too close to the ocean, asked me to be his wife, put the ring on the wrong finger, and I of course said yes. (Okay, maybe I forgot to say yes, but I was just too excited.)
The cherry on top? He had picked out my dream ring, and BOUGHT IT, before I had even told him about it.
