Essential Oils every photographer needs

Feb

In 2012, I decided that I wanted to become a wedding photographer, so I started a wedding photography business. I went full time with that business after I graduated college in 2014, which happened to be the same time that I started feeling intense stress, I got sick all the time, I wasn’t sleeping well, my skin was a mess, etc. etc.

This season was also the first time I had ever heard of essential oils. ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I learned that oils were just highly concentrated, natural oils from plants that can be used to support your body’s health needs. I learned that they could help with every single aspect that I was struggling with as a wedding photographer. They can help support your body in times of stress, they can boost your immune system, they can help clear your skin, they can help you get a restful nights’ sleep… literally EVERYTHING I needed help with.

After a few months of dragging my feet, I decided to get started. I bought a Premium Starter Kit, which was a curated kit of oils from Young Living that included a diffuser. And since giving that yes, my life has never been the same. ๐Ÿ˜ญ I thought, worst-case these will just smell good. But gosh did I get the absolute best case when I grabbed that kit.

These oils helped support me through three more years of being a wedding photographer, and continue to support me daily as a stock/product photographer. If you’re a photographer who maybe resonates with even just a tiny part of my story, this blog is for you.

Here are the oils I couldn’t survive without as a photographer:

Thieves – This is the healthy keeper. Thieves Vitality is what helped boost my immune system when it was so worn down. Use this daily for maintenance to keep your immune system in tip-top shape, because as photographers I know our worst nightmare is to wake up sick on a wedding or shoot day.

PanAway + Peppermint + Valor – These are my go-tos for my favorite DIY sore muscle roller. PanAway is kind of like Icy-Hot in oil form. It is refreshing and relieving. Peppermint leaves an amazing tingling feeling on your skin, and Valor is great for re-alignment. These three together do an incredible job with those restless legs I always seemed to get after an entire day on my feet.

Frankincense + Lavender + Tea Tree (or Purification) – My favorite skin clearing oils. Frankincense is a powerhouse for all things skin, but especially aging. (It’s also a great one for nervous tension!) Lavender helps soothe your skin and reduces redness. Tea Tree and Purification are my favorite blemish zappers.

Stress Away – I think this one is pretty self-explanatory. I roll this on almost every single day of my life. Whether you’re a wedding photographer, portrait photographer, landscape photographer, etc… we could all use a little less stress in our lives ๐Ÿ˜‰

Peace & Calming + Lavender + Valor + Cedarwood – The best freaking sleepy-time combo you’ll ever use. All four work together to create a relaxing environment to help you sleep, even when your brain won’t stop thinking about the next project you need to get done. I still, to this day, diffuse this combo at night.

DiGize – Okay, maybe not everyone is like me, but as a wedding photographer I would get a nervous tummy before every single wedding. Even my very last wedding I photographed, my stomach was in knots before shooting! DiGize Vitality supports your digestive system and is PERFECT to use if you also struggle with tummy issues before shoots!

Many of these oils that I use daily as a photographer are included in The Premium Starter Kit. Grabbing a Premium Starter Kit is the best bang for your buck, and it gets you 12 essential oils, a diffuser, plus extra goodies.
