I created this space as a place for me to share these loves and passions of mine; what makes my heart beat and colors my days alive. My hope is that this blog is filled with the realness, the rawness, the beautiful, the heart stirring, gut aching, shakey nervousness, slow and pensive, wild and thriving thoughts and moments of LIFE.
You may have seen a post on Instagram, heard someone talking about them, or even seen some oils at your local health market, leaving you wondering what are these oils that everyone keeps talking about. You may have thought that they’re just little bottles that smell good, but they’re so much more than that. Let’s break down what they actually are, and why you need them in your life.
Essential oils are just that, oils. They are oils found in plants and are used to heal and protect these plants within their environments. When these oils are extracted, they can aid in keeping our bodies healthy & happy; they way they were intended to be.
Essential Oils are made up of TINY molecules. Molecules so small that they can make their way into our cells and basically access the most fundamental levels of our body. These oils are different than your cooking oils which are made of fat. While they’re beginning to become pretty popular,this isn’t a new thing. In fact, essential oils and other botanicals have been used in wellness practices as early as at least 5,000 years ago.
It is really important to know that not all essential oils are created equally or safe to use in the ways Young Living essential oils are. For example, those oils you saw at the health market probably cannot be ingested the way Young Living oils can. After researching Young Living’s “Seed to Seal” process and seeing that many other essential oil brands contain synthetic oils, I knew it was the product I felt safest using. I started using Young Living oils for my own health reasons.
There are many ways to use oils, including topically, aromatically, and internally. Young Living Essential Oils can be applied directly to the skin. Before doing so, ALWAYS check the label on the bottle of oil for dilution recommendations. Some oils need to be diluted with a carrier oil, while others can be applied directly on the skin with no dilution. You can read more about carrier oils and what they are in this blog post. Applying oils to your feet is actually a super quick way to get the oils into the body! Oils can also be inhaled directly from the bottle, or via diffuser! This is the quickest way for your body to absorb the oils. Lastly, there are many oils that can be taken internally as a dietary supplement. You can add oils to your water, or even into a capsule for swallowing. Again, just be sure to read the bottle guidelines before taking internally.
And if you’re a person who just wants the cliff notes 😉, the summary of everything above is that Essential Oils are from plants. They smell great, but they ALSO help your body function the way it’s supposed to; healthily. They’re not a fad, but rather have been used for thousands of years. Not all oils are created equally, which is why we only use Young Living Essential Oils in our home. 🙌
